(JUBA) – South Sudan is moving to consolidate all public funds into a single Treasury Single Account, a reform designed to make government spending more transparent and easier to manage.
The Ministry of Finance and Planning held a one day workshop on the Treasury Single Account in Juba on Thursday, together with the World Bank Group. The session targeted senior staff and key stakeholders to build awareness of the planned system.
First Undersecretary Malual Tap Diu told those gathered that the effort would strengthen financial management, improve openness and accountability, and ensure wiser use of public resources.
World Bank Group representative David Santos said the project would supply equipment to the Ministry of Finance to help operate the Treasury Single Account. He said this would allow better control and smoother sharing of bank statements among South Sudan’s banks and partners.
Project Manager at the Ministry of Finance and Planning, Letiyo Kevin, said the workshop aims to set up the Treasury Single Account in South Sudan. He added that all key reforms would be carried out to create a single structure where all public money is brought together.
