(JUBA, CENTRAL EQUATORIA) – The Association for Media Development in South Sudan Association for Media Development in South Sudan has taken part in a workgroup meeting in Juba focused on setting annual priorities for a media development initiative led by Journalists for Human Rights and hosted by the South Sudan Women Empowerment Network.

The meeting brought together different stakeholders to discuss priority areas for the Actionable Plan Project, with attention given to women’s participation in decision making processes, access to education, health services, justice systems, media representation, and economic empowerment. Issues linked to gender based violence were also discussed as part of the broader agenda.

Participants noted that the discussions were aimed at strengthening coordination among media and civil society actors working on gender equality and inclusive communication in South Sudan. The focus was placed on improving how women’s voices are represented in public dialogue and media platforms.

AMDISS stated that its participation reflects continued engagement with partners working to expand inclusive media space and support equality focused programming within the country’s media sector.

In a separate development, AMDISS announced the start of a new partnership with Farm Radio International aimed at supporting community radio stations in South Sudan.

The collaboration will focus on three community radio stations and is designed to improve the production of programmes covering adolescent sexual and reproductive health and rights as well as broader sexual and reproductive health and rights issues.

As part of the initiative, the selected radio stations are expected to receive training support, mentorship, and assistance in content development and broadcasting. The aim is to strengthen their capacity to deliver consistent and relevant public health information to local audiences.

AMDISS expressed appreciation for the partnership, noting that cooperation with international media development organisations supports the growth of community radio and improves access to information in local communities.

The two developments highlight ongoing efforts by media development actors in South Sudan to expand training, strengthen content quality, and improve coverage of social issues affecting communities across the country.
