(NIMULE, EASTERN EQUATORIA) – Construction of a new bridge connecting Malakiya East and Gbugbu area is underway in Nimule, a project funded entirely by the municipal council and local community contributions. The crossing is expected to restore movement for residents who have long struggled to access markets, health services and farmland on the other side.
Municipality Mayor Caesar Longa Fuli visited the site on Wednesday to check on progress. He praised residents for taking the lead on development and said the council would keep working closely with communities to deliver projects that improve daily life.
The bridge is one of the few infrastructure works in the area paid for without donor funds. Local authorities say it shows a growing push to raise resources from within and reduce dependence on outside help.
Mayor Fuli said the government is focused on keeping peace and security stable so that people can farm, trade and move freely. He noted that without calm, even small projects cannot take root.
Once finished, the Gbugbu bridge will cut travel time between the two areas and give children safer passage to schools during the rainy season. Community leaders say they will organise local labour and materials to speed up completion.
