(JUBA) – The National Communication Authority in South Sudan has launched a comprehensive inspection exercise targeting information and communication technology service providers in Juba as part of efforts to strengthen regulatory compliance and improve service standards in the sector.
The inspection exercise is taking place from 10 June to 16 June 2026 and is being carried out by the authority’s compliance team. It covers a wide range of service providers including internet service providers, FM radio stations, satellite communication services, ICT equipment dealers and USSD short code operators.
According to the regulator, the exercise is focused on verifying compliance with licensing requirements and technical standards across all operators in the communications sector. The assessment is intended to ensure that service providers are operating within approved legal and operational frameworks.
The National Communication Authority said the exercise forms part of its broader mandate to protect consumers by promoting lawful compliance and improving the quality of communication services available to the public. It added that stronger oversight is necessary to build a more reliable and competitive ICT environment.
Officials noted that the inspection will also assess whether operators are meeting obligations related to service delivery standards and technical performance. This includes checks on infrastructure quality, operational licensing and adherence to regulatory guidelines.
The authority stated that improving compliance across the sector is expected to support better service delivery for consumers and enhance trust in digital and communication services in South Sudan.
In addition to the inspection activity, the National Communication Authority has recently engaged in a series of regional and international initiatives aimed at strengthening the country’s telecommunications sector.
These include participation in the Global Symposium for Regulators held in Ankara, Türkiye, where the authority engaged with global policymakers and regulators on digital governance frameworks and regulatory best practices. The discussions focused on building resilient and inclusive digital markets.
The authority also recently hosted a special envoy from the President of Zambia as part of efforts to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the telecommunications sector. The engagement focused on regional connectivity, digital transformation and preparations linked to African telecommunications regulatory coordination.
Earlier in the year, the National Communication Authority launched its first quarterly newsletter aimed at improving stakeholder communication and providing updates on regulatory developments, institutional reforms and digital sector growth.
The regulator said these initiatives reflect its commitment to strengthening the communications sector in South Sudan through improved regulation, regional cooperation and continuous sector monitoring.
The current inspection exercise is expected to conclude with findings that will guide future enforcement actions and policy improvements aimed at enhancing service quality and ensuring compliance across the ICT industry.
