(JUBA) – The Minister of Trade and Industry in South Sudan Dr Labanya Margaret Mathya has held discussions with a delegation from the Beledna Talkshow, focusing on economic communication, national branding and private sector engagement in development dialogue.
The meeting took place on 11 June 2026 in Juba when a team led by the Chief Executive Officer and host of the programme, Chirbek John, paid a courtesy visit to the minister. The delegation said the visit was intended to congratulate Dr Mathya on her appointment by President Salva Kiir Mayardit and to formally invite her to participate in an upcoming public panel discussion.
The eighth edition of the Beledna Talkshow is expected to focus on the theme “The Resilience Economy: From Resilience to Revenue, Unlocking South Sudan Potential”. Organisers said the event will bring together stakeholders to discuss ways of strengthening economic growth and improving public understanding of development opportunities in the country.
Chirbek John said the talkshow was established in 2022 with the aim of promoting positive stories about South Sudan, supporting national branding efforts and encouraging dialogue on issues affecting economic and social development. He said the platform seeks to highlight achievements and share experiences that can contribute to changing external and internal perceptions of the country.
He added that the programme is designed to provide space for discussion on national progress, with a focus on sectors such as trade, entrepreneurship and investment opportunities. According to him, the initiative also aims to engage young people and professionals in conversations about economic transformation.
Minister Dr Labanya Margaret Mathya welcomed the delegation and confirmed her acceptance to participate in the upcoming panel discussion. She expressed appreciation for the role of the talkshow in creating awareness about positive developments in South Sudan.
She said media platforms that focus on constructive national narratives play an important role in informing both local and international audiences about economic progress and development efforts. She noted that such initiatives can support government efforts to attract investment and improve confidence in the business environment.
The minister also briefed the delegation on the work of the Ministry of Trade and Industry, highlighting ongoing efforts to support industrial development, strengthen trade systems and promote economic growth. She said the ministry remains committed to policies aimed at improving the country’s productive capacity and expanding opportunities for businesses.
Both sides agreed on the importance of continued engagement between government institutions and media platforms in supporting public understanding of economic policies and development priorities.
